Kids grow fast. Their gear doesn't have to go to waste.
SizeUp is a noticeboard for kids' outgrown sports gear and school uniforms. Families list what's too small, other families pick it up for less, and local clubs and schools get a little something every time.
Selling
- Listing costs $5 per item or bundle. Giving something away for free? That listing is free too, as long as it doesn't ask for money.
- $2 of every fee goes to the club, school or PTA you choose.
- Buyers contact you and you sort out payment and pick-up between you. SizeUp takes no commission.
Buying
- Browse by sport, category or region, or search for a size.
- Message the seller from the listing. Meet somewhere public, or arrange a courier.
- Pay the seller directly. Check the item before you hand over cash where you can.
Buying safety gear second-hand
Helmets, life jackets and protective gear keep kids safe, so it pays to ask a few questions.
Helmets
Ask about any crashes or drops onto hard ground. Check the manufacture date sticker inside. Look for cracks, dents and a snug fit.
Life jackets and buoyancy aids
Match the size and weight range to your child. Check buckles, zips and straps, and that the foam isn't crushed.
Motorsport gear
Check race suits, boots and neck braces against your club's current rules before you buy.
Bikes
Test the brakes, check for frame cracks, and ask when it was last serviced.
FAQs
Why does it cost $5 to list?
It keeps listings genuine and spam-free, covers running the site, and $2 of it goes to a local club or school.
What can I list?
Anything a child has used for sport, activity or school: bikes, helmets, boots, uniforms, wetsuits, skis and more. No weapons, recalled products or anything unsafe.
Can I list several things together?
Yes. Tick "bundle", add each item and give it its own price if it can go separately. It's still $5 for the lot. When something sells, open your listing and use "Mark items as sold".
Can I change my listing to a different item?
No. Each listing is for the item it was first listed with, the same rule Trade Me uses. Once something has sold, list your next item as a new listing. You can fix a typo or drop the price yourself from your listing.
How do I change my listing or mark it sold?
Open your listing and tap "Is this your listing?". Enter the email you listed with, then drop the price, fix a typo or mark items as sold. Changes show within about an hour. Sold listings stay up for 30 days marked "Sold", with your contact details hidden, then come down.
Our club or school isn't on the list
Type its full name when you list and we'll add it. Clubs can also register on the clubs and schools page.
How do clubs and schools benefit?
We keep a running total for each club and school. Once it reaches $100, we turn it into new sports gear for them. We buy gear in bulk at a discount, so their share goes further.
Does SizeUp handle payment for items?
No. Buyers and sellers deal directly, so there are no fees on the sale itself.
Terms in brief
SizeUp is run by Percy Holdings Ltd. By listing, you confirm you own the item, that it's described honestly, and that it's legal and safe to sell. A listing is for the item or items first listed. It can't be reused or changed to sell something else, and a bundle can't have items added after it goes live; a new item needs a new listing. Once a listing or bundle item is marked sold, it stays sold and can't be reopened. Sellers can fix small typos and lower the price; anything else needs a new listing. We may edit or remove listings that break these terms. SizeUp isn't a party to sales between buyers and sellers. Club and school contributions are provided as sports gear, or in another form SizeUp chooses, once a balance reaches $100.
